Fire crews rescue Ginny the horse, trapped in ditch under tree at Bramshaw

A HORSE had to be craned out of a ditch at Bramshaw after becoming trapped under a tree.

Firefighters, including animal rescue teams from Winchester and Poole, and an Eastleigh crew with their chainsaw team, rushed to help 19-year-old cob Ginny.

The alarm was raised at 8.30am last Thursday, and the teams used a chainsaw and hand tools to remove the tree.

Ginny was then freed from the ditch with a Manitou – a four-wheel-drive telehandler with a telescopic hydraulic arm with various attachments.

Throughout the operation, which took several hours, the rescuers worked closely with the animal’s vet to ensure her welfare.

A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said afterwards: “We are happy to say that Ginny is now back on all fours and in the care of her owner.”
