Ringwood Repair Cafe at Greyfriars community centre will mend broken items at even hosted by Greening Ringwood
A REPAIR café will be operating at Ringwood, with experts willing to try their best with a whole range of items.
People with broken toasters, hair dryers, bikes, toys and crockery are invited to bring them along to Greyfriars Community Centre from 10am to noon on 27th April.
Organisers say that “anything that is broken is welcome and can more than likely be repaired as the Repair Café specialists have the know-how”.
Greening Ringwood is hosting the café, which it says is aimed at “helping to reduce the mountains of waste”.
Lindsay Andrews, Greening co-ordinator, said: "We throw away piles of stuff in the UK. Even things which have practically nothing wrong with them, and yet could easily be used again after a simple repair.
“Unfortunately, many people have forgotten that they can have things repaired. Repair Café wants to change all that."
The cafe is also a great social event and a chance to discover who in the community has the know-how and practical skills.
Lindsay said: "If you repair a bike, a CD player or a pair of trousers together with a previously unfamiliar neighbour, you look at that person in a different light the next time you run into them on the street. Jointly making repairs can lead to pleasant contacts in the neighbourhood."
