E-bike rental operator Voi sets its sights on Totton rollout
AN E-bike rental scheme is set to be rolled out in a New Forest town, says the UK’s leading operator.
Voi has chosen Totton as the next location for its bikes, which it says offer “ a new, safe, green, and affordable way to travel”.
Cllr David Harrison, who represents Totton and Marchwood at county level, said he had been briefed by Hampshire County Council on the proposal.
He said around 50 bikes, funded by a government scheme, would be located at various points around Totton.
Cllr Harrison explained: “I asked if they would consider a docking station in Marchwood, because I think the most used route would be the off-road cycling path between Eling and Marchwood. They agreed to consider the request.
“I feel broadly positive about the scheme – it seems to work very well elsewhere.”
He added: “They are seeking docking areas on footways where there is space. They want to deliver the scheme at pace because the funding deadline is June this year – they hope to have everything up and running by early summer.
“Initially, it will be a two year contract with an option to extend for eight years. There is a very small profit sharing element that will benefit the council.”
Voi's UK general manager, James Bolton, said: “As the UK’s leading e-scooter and e-bike operator, Voi is pleased to work closely with [the council] on plans to bring e-bikes to Totton.
"We hope to have e-bikes on the road later this year. Thousands already rely on our e-bikes in our wider scheme across the Solent —whether it’s for commuting, connecting to public transport, or exploring towns.
“We are looking forward to offering the people of Totton a new, safe, green, and affordable way to travel.”
