Driver (78) accused over death of grandmother in supermarket car park

A 78-YEAR-OLD woman has appeared in court charged with causing death by dangerous driving in a supermarket car park.

Pauline Cove, of Hounsdown Avenue in Totton, went before magistrates to face allegations relating to a collision by the cashpoint at Morrisons, off Spruce Drive in the town.

It led to the death of Doris Lush (86), from Chandlers Ford, following the incident about a year and a half ago on 12th July 2018.

As reported in the A&T, paramedic teams attended the supermarket, including the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

Another woman, Rebecca Lush, who was 22 at the time and also from Chandlers Ford, was left with life-changing injuries.

As well as the death by dangerous driving charge, Cove was also accused of causing injury by dangerous driving to Rebecca.

Southampton Magistrates’ Court was told she had been behind the wheel of a Peugeot 206 at the time. Cove did not enter a plea to either count.

The Bench sent the case to the city’s crown court where Cove was ordered to appear on 20th March. She was granted unconditional bail.

Bouquets of flowers were left at the scene of the incident at the Totton Morrisons in 2018 where all three ATMs boarded-up.

After Doris’s death, her family said in a statement: “Doris Mary Lush was an exceptional woman, a wonderful mother and amazing grandmother.

“Her death has sent shockwaves through our family. Words cannot express the sense of loss in such a tragic incident.”
