A LOCAL dog snapper has received national acclaim after being granted membership of the coveted Photographers Bar.

Catherine Dashwood earned the distinction after her images were assessed by the Guild of Photographers to have an exceptional level of professional skill and consistency.

Her passion for taking pictures of pooches began when she volunteered at Hampshire Hounds in Lymington, capturing photos of rescue dogs to help them find homes.

She took on her own studio in Everton, near Hordle, last year so she could offer specialised indoor and outdoor shoots of people’s pets.

Catherine told the A&T: “Being a member of the Guild of Photographers has pushed my photography to where it is now, as I love the competitiveness of it all with their monthly competitions. I was very chuffed to receive this award.”

“My two favourite passions are photography and dogs. I have always had dogs, and lots of other animals together with three children and five grandchildren.

“I went originally to Brockenhurst College to learn photography through evening school as I wished just to be able to take better images of my grandchildren and I never thought I would end up where I am now. “

She added: “I still photograph for Hampshire Hounds and volunteer for other dog charities at dog shows during the year. Doing all the charity work is still very important to me.”

Membership of the bar is a difficult title to attain with less than 200 photographers achieving it in the five years since its creation.

Guild Director Lesley Thirsk said: "I am delighted for Catherine as this is a great achievement! Submitting and having images assessed every month for a year and reaching the required standards to become a member of the Photographers Bar is very demanding.

“It illustrates her commitment, skill and consistency. Catherine should be very proud of what she has achieved"
