Dispersal order at Morrisons supermarket in Totton to stop anti-social car meets
POLICE have imposed a two-day dispersal order at Morrisons supermarket in Totton to stop more noisy "car meets".
The action comes after reports of hundreds of people turning up for an unauthorised event outside the supermarket last Sunday night.
Under the Section 34 powers officers can ban people from a specified area for up to 48 hours if they have committed anti-social behaviour, or are likely to.
The order runs from 6pm today (Friday) until 6am on Sunday, and covers the Morrisons supermarket, off Spruce Drive, and an area north-east of Salisbury Road, Calmore.
Hampshire police said it was in response to "information received about unauthorised car meets".
Controls have also been placed over an area in Nursling in Southampton, where similar incidents have happened.
Insp. Chris Taylor said: “There have been multiple incidents of large gatherings of cars meeting in Nursling and Calmore.
"Street racing, damage to road surfaces, noise and dangerous driving has been reported causing harassment, alarm and distress to members of the public.
“We have attended and been met with increasing hostility from those present – so we have put these orders in place.
“We will not tolerate any antisocial behaviour and will use every tool at our disposal to disrupt those involved.”
As reported in the A&T, Calmore residents have experienced a series of incidents in which large numbers of vehicles have turn up, noisily performing stunts and races.
There were a number last year at Calmore Industrial Estate, off Brunel Road.
One included a gathering of over 100 people and their vehicles on 7th August.
