Transition Lymington, Eco Sway, Greener Brockenhurst, and Pennington Community Action support calls for cycle route markers
CAMPAIGNERS are calling for way markers throughout the Forest to highlight safe routes for cyclists.
Riders from Pennington, Sway and Brockenhurst joined in a “three villages” bike ride to highlight routes they feel should be available for both “utility and leisure” cycling.
The cyclists followed proposed cycle-friendly routes as put forward by Transition Lymington on a London Tube-style map.
Riders set out from St Mark’s community hall in Pennington and from Brockenhurst Primary School, ending their journeys at Sway village hall.
The ride was organised by Transition Lymington working with Eco Sway, Greener Brockenhurst, and Pennington Community Action.
Wendy Collyer, of Eco Sway said: “Sustainable travel is a project being closely followed by green groups in this part of the New Forest.
“Apart from highlighting the routes which are available for utility and leisure cycling, we are asking our parish councils to put their minds to way-marking these routes between our villages.
“The community ride requires a lot of preparation, from risk assessment insurance to permits from Forestry England, but our ride leaders and marshals played an excellent role in the staging of this afternoon event.”
A PCSO was also on hand on the day to security tag bicycles.
