A NEW post office has opened in Barton after the closure of the previous branch more than two years ago.

Based in Barton News at Cliff Terrace in Marine Drive, it will trade seven days a week from 7am to 6pm – an increase of 33 hours a week on the previous service in Sea Road which shut for urgent structural repairs and the resignation of the postmaster.

It will be run by Vijiyamaliny Arulprasath and her husband Arulprasath Arulrajan, and offers a wide range of services including personal and small business banking delivered from an open-plan till alongside the retail counter.

Customers will also be able to access special delivery, local collect, home shopping returns, online banking cash deposits and withdrawals, and Post Office card account withdrawals.

Funds can be sent abroad using Moneygram, bills can be paid, travel money pre-ordered, travel insurance applied for and mobile phones topped up.

Carlos Pereira, area network change manager at Post Office Ltd, said: “We are delighted to be able to restore a service to our customers in the local community and in time for the busy Christmas period.

“We are confident that this vibrant new-style post office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs.”
