The number of seats for these elections was reduced to 48 from 60 after boundary changes were adopted in 2021.

Meanwhile, the ruling Conservatives lost 22 seats on BCP as the Liberal Democrats gained 15 and Christchurch Independents one. While the Lib Dems have the most seats with 28, they needed 39 to take full control.
