Community garden Patrick’s Patch at Fairweather’s Garden Centre in Beaulieu seeks volunteer head gardener
A community garden in Beaulieu is seeking a green-fingered volunteer to take it over.
Patrick’s Patch, part of Fairweather’s Garden Centre in the village, has been growing fruit and vegetables for around a decade.
The free to explore garden, which includes educational trails, is open to the public and local schools and community groups.
Tended to by a dedicated team of volunteers including head gardener Rachel Foster, the site has welcomed more than 5,100 schoolchildren, and 1,100 people from community groups have paid a visit since it opened, all leaving with a deeper understanding of where their food comes from and the joys of gardening.
Rachel, the “driving force” behind Patrick's Patch, is described as being “at the heart of its success”.
A spokesperson for the garden centre said: “Her passion for gardening and education has touched countless lives, and her leadership has made Patrick’s Patch a cherished part of the Beaulieu community. After a glorious 10 years, Rachel has decided it is time to hang up her fork and pass on the trowel to someone new.
“If you have a passion for gardening and a desire to continue the legacy of Patrick’s Patch, we want to hear from you. This is a unique opportunity to lead a beloved community resource and inspire the next generation of gardeners.”
One of the highlights of Patrick’s Patch is the Potting Shed Club, where children can learn about gardening while getting hands-on experience. The club allows young gardeners to engage directly with the natural world, using natural products and sustainable practices to grow their own plants.
