Elkins Boatyard – Christchurch marina site Convent Meadows up for sale at £8.5-million

The site of a family-owned marina in Christchurch is on the market for the first time in more than 100 years.

Convent Meadows is home to Elkins Boatyard, which comprises 33 moorings, a dock and two slipways, and has been operating since 1960. The seven acres also contains a caravan site with 20 chalet pitches, and partial river ownership.

The land, which was used during the Second World War to build landing craft, is between the Stour and Avon rivers. The current owners are retiring and are "looking for new stewards who will appreciate the site’s rich history and continue to make memories on the land" according to estate agent Spencers.

A car park on the site is not included in the sale, and the chalets on the property are also excluded as they are owned by licensees.

The boatyard operations are offered for sale separately, but will be wound down if the buyer opts not to take them on.

"This is a rare opportunity to own a prime waterfront development in Christchurch with a rich maritime history, a thriving business and endless potential," a spokesperson from Spencers said.

"The boatyard has been an integral part of the Christchurch community, providing a home away from home for local boating enthusiasts.

"Convent Meadows offers considerable potential, with the possibility of new chalets or even new homes in the future, subject to planning," the spokesperson added.
