Christchurch carnival donates £1,350 to Christchurch Support Kabin, Water Lily Cafe and Ukraine Relief

THIS year’s Christchurch carnival collected a total of £1,350 for a trio of good causes in the town.

The funds raised through the raffle and street bucket collections went to homelessness charity Christchurch Support Kabin, the Water Lily Cafe, which aids vulnerable women, and Ukraine Relief.

Carnival committee chair Viv Charrett said: “As well as feeding and supporting homeless people, Christchurch Support Kabin also helps other local people in need.

“They have just moved into their new premises in Bargates and have just had broadband installed.

“The three laptops we’ve donated will allow their clients to search for job opportunities, create their CVs, look for accommodation and help with education too.”

Ms Charrett said the committee also gave £300 to the Water Lily Cafe in Barrack Road and £300 to Ukraine Relief.

She added: “We were delighted to raise £1,350 from the raffle and the street collections, the latter partly due to having the carnival procession running again this year but also the terrific efforts of the UK Garrison Stormtroopers!

“Next year will be bigger and better, and I’m calling out to local groups to please consider joining in next year’s parade.

“This is our local carnival, and the more people who get involved, the better and more spectacular it will be.”
