Christchurch businesses get festive with Living Advent Calendar
CHRISTCHURCH will kick off 24 days of festive performances on Wednesday with a Living Advent Calendar
Organised by the town's Rotary, each evening will see a different 'door’ or ‘window’ at a town centre venue open for a 30-minute surprise performance by a choir, singer, band, dance troupe, musician or theatre group.
Each show will be hosted by a town business and supports a local charity.
Performances start at 6.15pm from the 1st to 23rd, with a "special, surprise Christmas Eve closing event" on the 24th in Saxon Square at the earlier time of 2pm.
Christchurch Rotary president Marianne Abley said: “Not only is this a magical celebration, but we can also use it as an opportunity and really unique way to encourage footfall into the town to help reinvigorate the High Street this Christmas – a chance for eateries, venues, hotels and shops to welcome back customers and clientele.”
Tim Lloyd from the Captain’s Club Hotel, who will be hosting an evening, added: “It’s a fantastic local celebration, we’ve got great talent here, beautiful locations, and a reason to get together – and all while supporting charities.
"It was a simple and easy decision to make, and we hope everyone enjoys the hard work which has gone into bringing the concept to life.”
More than £8,000 has already been committed by sponsors to support local charities.
Tracy Blick, from Christchurch Food Bank plus, said: “Opportunities like this are a gift for small charities like ours – we are so grateful to Rotary not just for fundraising and supporting us but for the association with such a wonderful community event.”
