Christchurch Community Partnership to host cream teas to mark the UN's International Day of Older Persons

A CHARITY which helps those struggling with social isolation is marking the UN’s International Day of Older Persons with three cream tea events.

Christchurch Community Partnership (CCP) will run the events simultaneously across three sheltered housing developments –Trafalgar Court, Bure House and Homelands – at 3pm on Sunday 1st October.

They will bring together members of the three lunch clubs that CCP supports, the charity’s clients and former clients, and volunteers.

Chief executive of the charity, Rev. Sandra Prudom, said: “The cream tea event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our older residents, and make them feel valued.

“Hopefully they will also enjoy interacting with the younger people and families who will be volunteering at the events. Our vision is to see social isolation eradicated across the age spectrum in Christchurch by connecting residents to their community – and this event is a great way to do that!”

CCP provides transport and befriending services that enable older people to access vital support and connect to their community. Since its launch, the charity has helped more than 17,000 local people.

Services include the befriending schemes Christchurch Angels and Helpful Neighbours, plus two transport schemes, Dial a Bus and Neighbour Cars.
