New Forest District Council confirms changes to household waste and recycling collections at Christmas and new year

SOME households in the New Forest will see changes to their bin collections over the festive period.

Residents whose rubbish and recycling are usually collected on Wednesdays won’t have theirs picked up on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day, taking place instead on Thursday 2nd January.

Those whose collection day is Thursday will miss collections on 26th December and 2nd January, move instead to Friday 3rd January.

Sack collections usually due on Friday 3rd January will be on Saturday 4th January.

Glass collections due on Christmas Day will instead be on Saturday 21st December, while those due on Boxing Day will move to Saturday 28th December.

Glass collections due on New Year’s Day will instead be on Saturday 4th January.

Collections of garden waste will be paused for two weeks from Monday 23rd December until Sunday 5th January.

The council is reminding residents that empty aerosols, plastic bottles, tins, cans, card, and paper can be added to their clear recycling sacks.

If not reused, greeting cards and plain brown gift wrap can be recycled, but any decorations such as ribbons or sticky tape must be removed first.

The majority of gift wrap is not suitable for recycling in Hampshire, as it contains a mixture of plastic and foil.

Batteries, and electricals – generally any item with a plug, battery or cable – can be taken to household waste and recycling centres.

Residents wanting to recycle their real Christmas trees can do so between 31st December and 14th January at the following drop-off points:

• Blackfield – Gang Warily Community Centre

• Brockenhurst – Brookley Road car park

• Burley – Burley coach park

• Fordingbridge – A338 slip road car park

• Hythe – New Road car park

• Lymington – Bath Road car park

• Lyndhurst – Village centre car park

• Milford – Hurst Road East overflow car park

• New Milton – Crossmead Avenue car park

• Ringwood – Furlong long stay car park

• Totton – Rumbridge Street car park
