Lymington Auctions to appear on BBC show Celebrity Antiques Road Trip

FAMOUS faces are set to grace a fundraising charity auction in Lymington tomorrow (Thursday) for a celebrity edition of BBC show Antiques Road Trip.

Lymington Auctions director James Powner and manager Hannah Small – who will be tying the knot in five weeks – said they are looking forward to their brush with fame.

Antiques Road Trip sees experts travelling the length and breadth of the country searching for treasures to auction off in a competition to see who can make the most money. The show is narrated by antiques expert Tim Wonnacott.

Among the items going under the hammer at the Emsworth Road auction house this week will be a vintage Triumph motorcycle, a “beautiful” 2.9 carat diamond ring and a set of traffic lights.

“We’ve been contacted quite a few times by the BBC about appearing on a show,” Hannah told the A&T. “James and I have been more interested in growing our business, which is not always very straightforward.

“We know that this time the money raised will be going to charity, although the producers haven’t specified which one yet. That’s why we wanted to do it this time. We know there will also be some celebrities coming along but we don’t know who yet.”

Hannah said there are some “amazing” items going under the hammer tomorrow, including the motorcycle, and a Tiffany silver service tea set dating between 1907 and 1947.

“We also have a set of traffic lights, which is quite unusual,” she added. “It’s never easy putting an auction together but James and I are young and we’ve got the energy for it. Auctions are always exciting and so unpredictable.

“The estimates we give to out clients are usually pretty spot on but the antiques market is quite unpredictable at the moment, so it should be an interesting day.”

The auction is running tomorrow and Friday, with the celebrities present for the first day.
