Ged Hollyoake’s Christmas lights display on Byron Road, Barton, is back

THE countdown to Christmas was officially launched when a Barton street was illuminated with tens of thousands of sparkling lights and festive scenes.

For organiser Ged Hollyoake, the construction of an array of twinkling lights, life-sized characters. nativity scenes and festive ornaments keeps him busy for weeks before the big switch-on.

This year Ged also helped neighbours with decorating five other homes in the street, which was named Britain’s most festive by Daily Mail readers in 2016

Homes in Byron Road will be lit up every evening between 4.30pm and around 8.30pm until 31st December to raise money for Oakhaven Hospice in memory of Ged’s partner Sue Rideout, and neighbour and friend Mike Youngs.

This year Ged was joined for the official switch-on by grandson Dylan, who adores the festive decorations.

In the last two decades the display has raised more than £87,000 for good causes.
