BT customers without broadband in Christchurch Highcliffe, New Milton and Hordle

A MAJOR outage has left thousands of BT broadband customers without internet service in parts of Christchurch, Highcliffe, New Milton and Hordle.

A message on the service checker section of BT’s website revealed the firm had been made aware of an ‘incident’ impacting broadband services in Christchurch, New Milton and Highcliffe overnight.

Customers who reported the fault received a text which revealed the problem was logged at 1.14am on Monday morning and it was expected to be resolved by 5.17pm.

Hundreds of households in Hordle and Ashley were also impacted with residents reporting issues on Facebook. One resident wrote: “Ours down in Sky End. It’s out in Barton and New Milton too, I hear.”

Another commented: “We have a phone line working but our BT internet is not working.”

Another Facebook user added: “Luckily I am able to hotspot from my mobile phone – but with so many people currently working from home being left without broadband for several hours is far from ideal!”

A spokesperson for BT said: “We’re aware of a fault affecting some broadband customers in the Christchurch area of Dorset. Engineers are working to fix this as soon as possible and we’re sorry for any inconvenience. Calls made from mobiles, including 999 calls from mobiles, and most landline services are not affected.”
