British Championship duathlon medals for New Forest triumphant trio
THREE New Forest based athletes, Camille King, Sophie Bubb and Mick Anglim, have had a great start to the 2019 season with medal-winning performances at the British Duathlon Championships.
The three athletes were contesting the standard distance duathlon of a 10km run, 40km bike ride and 5km run at the championships held at the Bedford Autodrome.
Lymington long-distance running specialist Camille King, who competes for 9 Endurance Tri Club, won two silvers.
She crossed the line in second place in 2 hours 10 minutes and 26 seconds which also gave her silver in the 40-44 years age group.
Lymington Triathlon Club’s Sophie Bubb took bronze overall and gold in the 35-39 years female age category and Hardley Runners Mick Anglim won silver in the men’s 70-74 years event.
All three athletes were using the race in preparation for the ITU World Championships in Pontevedra Spain early next month, where they will be representing Great Britain.
It will be a first GB cap in long distance triathlon for Camille. Speaking about the British Championships, she told the A&T: “It was a wonderful surprise. I’ve only taken part in three duathlons beforehand and I happened to win them all, but I thought it was just a bit of luck.
"So I was really excited to come home with a silver medal from the 2019 British Championships!

Camille’s New Forest-based training friend Sophie was unlucky not to win the British Duathlon Championships.
The Lymington Tri Club athlete was leading the race, but accidentally did an extra lap on the bike course, incredibly she still finished third woman overall in 2:12:03 and took gold in her 35-39 years age group.
Sophie will represent GB in the Elite category at next month’s World Long Distance Championships and has qualified automatically to represent GB in both the European and World Duathlon Championships in 2020.
Hardley Runners Mick Anglim, a six times past British Duathlon winner, took silver in the men’s 70-74 years category at the event in Bedford, crossing the line in 2:27:38.
He told the A&T: “I didn’t manage a sixth consecutive British title in my third year in M70 and was beaten by a ‘youngster’ who won’t be 70 until November!"
Mick will represent GB at next month’s 2019 Worlds in the 70-74 Male AG Sprint. He has already qualified for the 2020 World and European Standard Duathlons and is hoping to qualify for the 2020 World Sprint Duathlon.
