Breamore School praised for environment that values “nuture and care” by Ofsted inspectors

A FORDINGBRIDGE school has been praised by Ofsted inspectors for creating an environment that values “nurture and care”.

Breamore CofE Primary School was said in a report to be “warm and welcoming”, with relationships between staff and children noted as “exceptionally strong”.

It was rated ‘Good’, with the area of personal development said to be ‘outstanding’.

Pupils learn “resilience, focus and independence”, said Ofsted, and understand the school values of “justice, compassion and trust” well.

Teachers have “high expectations” for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

Children enjoy trips to places like Stonehenge and “speak enthusiastically” about their study projects.

The curriculum was praised for being “broad, relevant and engaging”, with teachers’ subject knowledge said to be “strong”.

However, in some lessons, inspectors found staff did not “pick up misconceptions consistently well”, with the result being some pupils developed gaps in their learning.

It was noted the school was “ambitious for pupils with SEND”, who follow the same curriculum as other pupils. But further work was needed, it was said, to make sure that teachers “fully understand how best to provide support for pupils with SEND”.

Across the curriculum, inspectors added that “learning is not always adapted effectively enough to ensure that pupils with SEND can succeed”.

“The school should make sure that teachers know how to identify the building blocks necessary to ensure that pupils with SEND can learn the curriculum and make progress alongside their peers,” they said.

Inspectors reported that pupils were “enthusiastic learners”, with the school’s programme for pupils’ personal development described as “exceptional”.
