Bonus point win for promotion-chasing Ellingham and Ringwood RFC
Hampshire Division One: Ellingham and Ringwood RFC 45-14 Overton
ELLINGHAM AND RINGWOOD RFC secured another important home bonus point win, this time against Overton to remain second with promotion to Hampshire Premier still achievable.
The Es secured the bonus point with four tries before half-time. Wing three quarter Matt Raybould opened the scoring before his opposite wing Dean Young scored a first half hat-trick and kicked three conversions. Overton replied with a converted try to make it 26-7 at the break.
In the second half both Raybould and Young added further tries, with the other E&R score coming from flank forward Jack White. Young was successful with two conversions.
After the game, Ellingham’s captain Henry Benson said: “We flew out of the blocks today and put in a great first half performance, but our finishing was poor in the second half and we really should have won by more.
“This result keeps us in second place with two games to go, but we’ve still got to play league leaders Alton at home, which is a game we probably need to win if we’re going to achieve our objective of being promoted into the Hampshire Premier League.”
