THE sudden death of a 85-year-old man this morning sparked a large police presence in Brockenhurst.

It is understood the find was made on the common area behind the school.

Witnesses said children were not allowed to use one entrance of the school while officers were talking to pedestrians.

"There was a lot of police activity and one police officer standing by an object in the middle of the common behind the village school," said one. "It's all sad really.

"The weather was awful last night, and the thought of someone vulnerable having to take shelter under a tree isn't good."

"His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers at this time.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner."
