New Milton Community Garden scoops two awards in RHS South & South East in Bloom competition
The recently-launched New Milton Community Garden reaped success by scooping two prestigious awards.
Gongs were presented to the Fawcett’s Field facility in separate categories at the annual RHS South & South East in Bloom competition, held at RHS Wisley.
It received a Level 4 Thriving award in the It's Your Neighbourhood category for community participation, environmental responsibility and gardening achievement.
Having also entered the South & South East in Bloom environmental challenge, it won a silver gilt award, too. This recognised its focus on the environment and sustainability.
NMCG chair Angela Jackson said: “I’m delighted the garden has been recognised by the RHS for its contribution to the local community and the environment.
“I’m proud of the team and volunteers, who helped to achieve these awards which are a testament to what can be achieved by community gardening.”
New Milton Community Garden is a registered charity with five trustees responsible for the site, supported by a further team of five and a large group of volunteers providing services on an ad hoc basis.
It is funded by charitable donations from various organisations and public donations of funds, equipment and plants.
There are regular open afternoons on Wednesdays, and the facility is hosting a Halloween pumpkin carving event today (Friday) from 10.30am to midday.
It will also host Community Carols in the Garden on 20th December from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
