A WOMAN has been released on bail after being arrested on suspicion of murder over the discovery of the body of a baby boy in woodland.

The 36-year-old was detained by police on Saturday for questioning after the infant was found among trees off Shore Road in Hythe on Thursday.

She was let go yesterday (Tuesday), after officers secured 32 hours’ extra time to hold her in the investigation, dubbed Operation Verse.

The baby is thought to have been white and born either full-term or close to full-term. He was found near a gravel layby close to the train gates on Shore Road.

A spokesperson for Hampshire police said last night that investigations are ongoing. The force has appealed for anyone with information to come forward, including drivers with dashcam footage.

Information can be passed on by calling 101 and quoting Operation Verse or reference number 44200084127.
