Assurances over 'brown' water at Avon beach, Christchurch

ASSURANCES have been offered after complaints about the water quality off Avon beach at Christchurch.

There have been comments on social media about the area, and a member of the public contacted the A&T, describing the sea at the weekend as looking "brown".

A BCP Council spokesperson said it had been in contact with the Environment Agency, Public Health Dorset and Public Health England, and "no concerns" had been raised by any of them in response.

"We will continue to work with our partners to monitor water quality as part of our ongoing routine to keep our beaches clean and safe," she added.

“In line with standard advice, if anyone is feeling unwell or has any medical concerns, you should contact your GP or the NHS 111 service for advice.”

She pointed out there are nine Blue Flag beaches within the BCP area, although none is on the Christchurch coastline.

However, Seaside Awards for cleanliness have been made to the beaches at Friars Cliff, Avon and Highcliffe.
