TWO men are in custody after a Lymington shop was burgled early this morning (Thursday).

Officers were sent to the convenience store on Milford Road after two members of the public reported the burglary at about 1.10am.

Two men were seen gaining entry via a broken window in the entrance door, but quickly fled the premises and left the scene, a spokesperson for Hampshire police said. Nothing was stolen.

Officers then located a vehicle matching the description seen by witnesses and a short pursuit followed. The occupants fled the vehicle and were arrested by officers. The vehicle was seized.

A 26-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of burglary and failing to stop, while a 35-year-old man, also from Southampton, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

They both remain in custody.
