Arnewood School in New Milton wins right to perform Disney’s Frozen the Musical
STUDENTS from Arnewood are celebrating after being chosen from hundreds of schools across the UK to perform Frozen the Musical.
The New Milton school is one of just 11 in the country given permission by Disney to put on the famous musical based on the award-winning movie.
The United Kingdom of Frozen: Love is an Open Door Competition is run by Music Theatre International (MTI) and Disney Theatrical Group.
Winners receive stage rights, script and score materials and support to put the production on.
Applicants were asked to describe their “unique vision” of Frozen and how they would use the theme ‘Love is an Open Door’ as an opportunity to “strengthen their school community, provide outreach to underrepresented groups, and support inclusive and diverse theatre for all”.
Head of Expressive Arts at Arnewood, Kirsten Watson, said: “They were so impressed with everything we said in the application and everything we do.
“We have a varied intake and want to champion inclusivity and ability to express ourselves. Having the opportunity to offer Frozen as our school production, and to promote its themes across our whole school community, will be incredible.
“We cannot wait to make the most of this unique opportunity to showcase, Frozen the Musical and build snowmen and memories with the whole community.”
Every student who auditions for one of the performances will be given a role in the Arnewood production.
Ryan Macaulay, director of operations, education development for MTI’s London office, said: “We were overwhelmed by the positive response to the United Kingdom of Frozen competition, with hundreds of schools submitting applications to take part.
“It has been thrilling to read about the remarkable passion and dedication of teachers across the UK who are working tirelessly to ensure the performing arts are reaching more young people than ever before.“
