Vapes and chocolate stolen as thieves smash their way into Morrisons Daily in New Milton

VAPES and chocolate were stolen when thieves smashed their way into a New Milton store in the early hours of today (Tuesday).

A glass panel was shattered, apparently with a rock, to gain entry to Morrisons Daily at the junction of Station Road and Avenue Road.

The alarm was raised shortly after 1am, and the branch was shut this morning as staff awaited police.

A trestle table had been put up in front of the store to prevent passers-by getting too near the broken window pane. A large rock could be seen lying on the floor just inside the gap.

A Hampshire force spokesperson said: “We were called shortly after 1am today (Tuesday 21st January) to a report of a burglary at Morrisons Daily, Avenue Road, New Milton.

“Entry was forced to the front of the premises, resulting in a smashed glass panel. Vapes and chocolate were reportedly stolen from within.

“An investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the incident is under way and enquiries are ongoing at this time.”

Witnesses and those who captured any useful video footage on CCTV or dash cam are urged to come forward.

It comes a week after another New Milton Morrisons Daily branch, on Beechwood Avenue, was targeted in an armed robbery attempt.

As reported in the A&T, a knife-wielding raider wearing a balaclava and covered in a bedsheet threatened a staff member and demanded cash and cigarettes.

But the offender fled empty-handed when the staff member sprayed oven cleaner at him as he tried to jump over the counter.

This incident, which took place around 6.45am last Tuesday, resulted in another worker at the branch complaining of the response both from police and Morrisons.

The A&T has contacted Morrisons about this morning’s break-in.

The force spokesperson said the two Morrisons Daily raids were not being linked at this time.
