All-round showing from Lymington U9s gives them victory over Brock
LYMINGTON CC U9s put in a solid performance to win a friendly against Brockenhurst.
Harriet won the toss and elected to bat at Balmer Lawn. Charlotte and Bella got off to a great start. Zach made a quick-fire 22 including four boundaries, supported well by Denning as Lymington had 54 off the first eight overs.
Tight bowling from the home side checked the visitors' progress, Harry and Cameron giving the opposition little to score off. Tristen managed to find the gaps, with a powerful 23 against admirable Brockenhurst bowling. Lymington eventually set a score of 118 off 20 overs.
The previous week at Hythe and Dibden, the bowling proved to be the weakness, but Lymington’s work had paid off. Otto started very well, with an excellent caught-and-bowled drawing excitement from the crowd.
Lawrence then came to the fore with some attacking bowling, backed up by ever-enthusiastic fielding. Freddie threw down the stumps at one point for a superb run-out. Harriet and Denning kept things tight despite solid batting from home players Sophie, Henry and Toby.
At one point, Brockenhurst were on par with the scoring rate, but four catches in the space of a couple of overs halted the home side’s progress. Jonah took the pick of them, with an excellent effort in the deep, with Charlotte holding onto a high one and Tristen taking two good catches behind the stumps.
