Alfie Jones from Fordingbridge raises over £1,200 for Bickerley Green care home in Ringwood
A nine-year-old boy has raised over £1,200 for a home taking care of his great-grandparents.
Alfie Jones, from Fordingbridge, got the idea for his charity endeavour after visiting his relatives at Ringwood’s Bickerley Green Residential and Nursing Home.
Described as a “caring boy”, Alfie wanted to make their lives better in some way, along with the other residents at the home.
First he donated his pocket money to help support resident cat, Flint, who is adored by those at Bickerley Green.
Then he decided to enter the Junior Great South Run. Not being a natural runner, he wanted to improve his fitness as well as raising money for a cause close to his heart.
Alfie trained hard, and in front of excited friends and family ran the 2.5km in 17 minutes.
Mum Sherri said: “I’m so proud of Alfie for commiting himself to raise all that money and complete the Junior Great South Run. The money raised will make the residents’ lives so much happier and enjoyable.”
Manager of Bickerley Green, Tracy Flint, spoke of how Alfie’s kindness will make a huge difference to all at Bickerley Green.
She said: “What Alfie has done, by raising all that money, will make such a difference to enable our residents to enjoy a trip out in a minibus to places they will enjoy. It has been truly overwhelming to have this support from Alfie and all his many supporters.”
Alfie said "I can't believe I raised that much money! I love visiting Bickerley Green and seeing everyone. I hated running before but now I actually quite like it"
