Southern Water confirms continuing closure of A35 eastbound carriageway at Redbridge flyover
THE closure of a main route linking the New Forest with Southampton has been extended for “a number of days”.
As reported by the A&T, Southern Water is carrying out emergency repairs on the eastbound carriageway of the A35 Redbridge flyover.
It was closed to vehicles at 10pm on Monday to carry out planned work to find and fix a leak.
Now Southern Water has confirmed the work is ongoing and the carriageway will remain closed “for a number of days to allow this work to take place safely”. A spokesperson confirmed there would be no loss to supply for residents.
Travel services reported lengthy tailbacks in the area during the morning rush hour. Hampshire County Council leader, Cllr Nick Adams-King, said: “The roadworks on the Redbridge flyover have caused significant disruption around Totton and along the roads heading toward the Waterside.
“The bad news is that Southern Water are saying the roadworks will continue for at least another couple of days. The permit currently runs until Friday. If you can find alternative ways into Southampton I would do so for the rest of the week.
A further update will be issued by Southern Water tomorrow.
