New Milton Advertiser and Lymington Times 'highly commended' at Newspaper Awards
THE A&T was "highly commended" at an awards ceremony in London last night (Tuesday) as it was pipped to the post for the title of Local Weekly Newspaper of the Year.
The paper, which has its office on New Milton and covers the New Forest district and Christchurch, was up against five others in the Newspaper Awards category.
The winning publication was the Cambridge Independent which, like the A&T, is part of the Iliffe Media Group.
A&T editor Ben Craig, who is stepping down from the role at the end of next week, said: "It's so encouraging to get this kind of national recognition for the hard work our team puts in week after week to bring genuine local news to our readers.
"What a lovely way to bow out after nearly 20 years at the A&T."
Digital editor Lyndon Hogg has been promoted to editor and will take over from 10th April.
He said: "It's an absolute privilege to take the reins of such a well-loved and respected publication as the A&T.
"But I'm just one of an exceptional team working to make we serve the community well by highlighting the issues important to residents."
The Cambridge Independent took the accolade for the fifth year running at the ceremony, which was held at the Hilton London Bankside and attracts entrants from across the UK.
