Southern Premier Division One: Andover 140 v New Milton CC 144-4 (New Milton CC won by six wickets)
NEW Milton extended their winning streak to three games following a six-wicket victory over Andover at Fernhill.
After losing the toss, New Milton’s bowling attack got off to a flying start. Skipper George Watts (3-16) claimed wickets with the first and third balls of the innings to leave Andover reeling at 0-2. Watts struck again in his next over, removing wicketkeeper-batsman Lewis McManus for another duck.
As the wickets started to dry up, youngster Oli Wilmore (2-38) struck as he dismissed Matt Knight and Nathan Birks which swung the game in New Milton’s favour.
Charlie Ayers anchored the Andover innings with an unbeaten 76 which included nine fours and three sixes.
However, with the score moving on to 124-6, Dan Loader took the initiative for New Milton, picking up a dazzling hat-trick to remove lower-order batsmen Mike Adams, Richard Taylor and Morgan Vanandel.
The innings concluded with Lee Beck running out tailender Aidan Jansen, leaving Ayers without a partner, as Andover were bowled out for 140 after 33 overs.
In response, New Milton got off to a cagey start. New addition Dan Adlem departed for six with the hosts 15-1.
Number three Campbell Golding (18) and opener Steve Watts (12) pushed the score to 43 before they were back in the pavilion, however, Alfie Hussey (17) and leading run-scorer Lee Beck steadied the ship.
Hussey departed on 85-4, but Lee Beck and brother Ryan Beck continued the New Milton assault. Lee finished unbeaten, one short of his half century, while Ryan smashed 31* with four fours and one six to wrap up a six-wicket victory for the Green and Golds.
New Milton travel to Old Tauntonians & Romsey on Saturday looking to continue their good form.
