Hants Women’s Division 1: Aldershot & Farnham II 0-6 New Forest Hockey Club
NEW FOREST Hockey Club’s ladies first team remain in second place in Hants Division One after a big win away to Aldershot & Farnham II.
In the first half Forest’s solid defensive unit of Sarah Biddlecombe, Beth Cammegh and Maz Brewis ensured the home side were denied any shots on goal.
Forest ladies had a high percentage of possession and plenty of scoring opportunities, so it was no surprise when they scored, midfielders Lia Waine and Rachel Lloyd combining to spread the play wide into space to Nicky Brooks, she in turn releasing Francesca Robertson who played in Flossie Williams to score.
Forest had many more chances before Lauren Gavin played a perfect cross to Nicky Brooks who finished neatly for goal number two.
A few minutes before half-time, a cross from Jade Lock found Robertson who slipped it in for a 3-0 Forest lead at half-time.
New Forest continued their assault in the second half and won a short corner which top scorer Lock effortlessly fielded before smashing into the net.
Aldershot had some promising runs and a few shots, but Forest keeper Becky Snook pulled out several outstanding saves for a well-deserved clean sheet.
Lock and Carrie Stott continued to apply pressure that led to Williams snatching the ball from an Aldershot defender.
The teenager then skilfully skipped past the keeper before slotting the ball into the empty net for 5-0.
In the last few minutes Forest demonstrated skill and determination with all the midfielders and forwards tenaciously pressing around the attacking circle in search of one more goal.
It arrived when Player of the Match Francesca Robertson fielded a rebound and flicked the ball into the top left corner. Francesca’s goal capped an outstanding performance.
