FOUR men were arrested after police responding to a disturbance discovered a raid on an agricultural store in Lymington.
The alarm was raised last night (Wednesday), with a member of the public reporting hearing “loud banging” at Mole Country Stores in Mount Pleasant Lane between 9.30pm and 10.30pm.
The offenders were reportedly armed with sledgehammers and “left a mess”.
Officers seized items of clothing believed to have been stolen after entry was gained to the premises when they arrived at the scene.
The four men – a 23-year-old from Ringwood, a 23-year-old from Hythe, a 33-year-old from Marchwood and a 22-year-old from Salisbury – were all detained on suspicion of burglary.
They have all since been released under investigation while enquiries into the break-in continue.
A Hampshire police spokesperson said: “We can confirm that entry was gained into the premises by the suspects, whereby a range of clothing garments were stolen.
“Officers arriving on-scene seized these items of clothing upon arresting the suspects.”
Staff at Mole Country Stores told the A&T this afternoon the store had opened as normal and no serious damage had been caused in the break-in.
“We’d like to put a general thanks out to our lovely neighbours who raised the alarm,” they said.
