A ROTTED boardwalk at a Ringwood beauty spot has been temporarily closed so it can be replaced.
The timber structure beside the Millstream in Danny Cracknell Pocket Park has decayed because of the damp environment much sooner than Ringwood Town Council expected.
Town clerk Chris Wilkins said a recent inspection revealed it was “both unsafe and beyond economic repair”.
The council began preparations to replace it last year with a new structure of wood-free composite materials.
The new version is designed to preserve the attractive appearance of real hardwood but be more resilient and less prone to becoming slippery when wet.
Mr Wilkins added: “Those plans will now be accelerated and the new boardwalk installed as soon as practicable.
“This popular green space close to the town centre will remain open to public use but the council apologises for the reduced accessibility and inconvenience that the temporary removal of the boardwalk is likely to cause some users.”
