SIR – There is currently much speculation and misinformation regarding the Christmas illuminations in Lyndhurst.
May I reassure your readers that there will be lights in the village over the festive period.
It is unfortunate that due to increased regulations the fixings that were used to carry the illuminated strings across the road are no longer fit for purpose and the type of building construction in the High Street is not suitable to enable replacements.
The small individual trees will be positioned as usual together with the larger feature trees and silhouettes.
The Decorations Committee has not been idle and has made a considerable investment in an alternative scheme which is hoped will flood the village with colour.
It may be sad to be losing the overhead strings but we should not dwell on what we can’t do but concentrate on what we can do and move forward.
Change should be an opportunity, not something to hold you back. To celebrate the new beginnings may I invite all your readers to join us for the ‘switch-on’ on Saturday 30th November on the forecourt of the Mailman’s Arms.
There will be musical entertainment from 5-7pm with the actual switch-on scheduled for 6pm. There is a strong possibility of a salvo of fireworks to coincide with the switch-on.
