TWO local tennis coaches have been putting adults and kids through their paces by posting exercise videos during the coronavirus pandemic.
Tennis 21 coaches Tom Ellis and David Martins have posted several clips on Facebook to keep people active during the lockdown.
The pair, who run tennis classes at Lymington Tennis Club, have got creative to help their Facebook followers with skills challenges and various training drills to do around the house.
Tom told the A&T that they wanted to help people stay on their toes during this difficult period: “Our business is about trying to get as many people active as possible, whether it is through multi-skills, fitness or tennis.
“While we are unable to get on the court physically, we thought it would be a good thing to do to provide the local community with some videos with relatively easy skills they can practise at home.
“The idea is that they are for the whole family, from beginners to seasoned professionals.”
Tom and David have been posting videos every three to four days, and Tom has been surprised by the reaction: “It has been really positive, people from within tennis and people with no experience of tennis have enjoyed the videos.
“They have been a bit hit-and-miss with the amount they are viewed, but our most recent one seems to have been viewed the most.”
Tom added: “I think people must have enjoyed the humour behind it. As we do more videos, we will learn more about what people like and what they don’t like, and our editing skills will improve.
“If people want to see anything in particular, they only have to ask, and we will make it happen.”
The pair are both LTA level four coaches and have only recently moved to the New Forest area. They created the company to offer high-quality sessions at an affordable price while offering people flexibility as to which sessions they want to attend.
Tom unveiled their plans for when they get back on the court: “When we are able to start running physical lessons again we will be based out of Lymington Tennis Club. We will be offering a month’s worth of tennis to local residents for £1 for the first month that we are operating.
“This gives residents of all ages and abilities the chance to learn skills, stay fit and play tennis as much as they want.”
