Local chamber choir Choralia Milford are supporting Oxfam
A JOYFUL concert celebrating Summer in Song is set to take place at All Saints Church in Milford in support of Oxfam
Led by musical director Phil Daish-Handy, local chamber choir Choralia Milford are set to perform a programme of popular and lesser known music celebrating the season.
The Milford based chamber choir, comprising some 40 members, will be joined by accompanist Leigh Jerwood and players from Nova Foresta Philharmonic.
The programme promises something for everyone, with a few favourites from Gilbert and Sullivan, along with a choral re-imagining of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons – Summer. There will also be some well-loved songs, solos and a few surprises.
A choir spokesperson said: “The choir has grown in strength musically and in number, every concert eliciting enquiries about joining the choir.
“Choralia Milford is building its reputation by bringing a more unusual and lesser-known repertoire of new and old, secular and sacred music to concert audiences, many sung a cappella, in addition to more familiar music.
“Erring toward the more classical, but with some surprising arrangements adding an element of surprise to performances. The choir members have a wide range of musical experience – some members have sung from childhood and can sight read; some latecomers to singing have no formal music skills.”
The concert will support Oxfam, whose volunteers will be serving interval refreshments.
Musical director Phil Daish-Handy revealed: “The choir keeps very busy this is its third concert this year, and there are more to come. A few weeks ago, the choir was privileged to be invited to sing Evensong at Salisbury Cathedral and next year, some of the choir will be visiting Lymington’s Twin Town in Mosbach, Germany, to take part in that town’s 1200 year Anniversary Music Festival.”
The Summer in Song concert will take place at All Saints Church Milford on Saturday 12th July at 2.30pm. Tickets are £15 (free for children) and are on sale at the Bridge box office in Milford, the Oxfam Shop in New Milton or via choraliamilford.org.uk. Some tickets will also be available on the door.
