What’s On: Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Regent Centre, Christchurch

COLOURFUL circus scenes will blend with panto fun as Highcliffe Charity Players perform Goldilocks and the Three Bears at Christchurch Regent Centre.

The spectacular circus-themed, one-act version by Tom Whalley promises to add a colourful twist to this well-loved pantomime, with show profits donated to local charities and good causes.

Audiences are invited to join the fun as Dame Gertie’s Circus comes to Christchurch. It’s the craziest circus in town, but the wicked ringmaster Heinkel, helped by his silly sidekick Snot, plans to shut it down and replace it with his rival Circus of Horrors.

Highcliffe Charity Players are renowned for staging laughter-packed pantos with stunning sets and costumes, dazzling song-and-dance routines, slapstick humour and plenty of opportunities for audience participation.

Panto director and HCP chair Pete Whitaker said: “Goldilocks was the first pantomime the Players ever performed at the Regent back in 1986, and it has remained a firm favourite ever since, enchanting generations of panto-goers. Our new production not only has the ‘bear’ essentials, but a menagerie of animal magic.

“We are delighted again this year to have an incredibly talented young ensemble to complete our cast. HCP are proud to be giving opportunities to local performers, which will hopefully help them in their chosen career in the arts. It is also exciting to see so many future Players coming through, which can only benefit the company for years to come.”

This year the role of panto dame is played by Malcolm George, with Goldilocks played by 17-year-old Laila Judge. Silly Billy is performed by Harry Young, and wicked ringmaster Heinkel is played by Jade Morrell who is relishing taking on her first baddie. She is aided – or hindered – by Snot, her well-meaning idiotic sidekick, played by Paul Barrington.
