New Forest Players to take to the stage at Forest Arts in New Milton with Talking Heads
NEW Forest Players will share a slice of life in the 1980s with a production of Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads.
Following on from last year’s very successful production of ART, the amateur group will be on stage at New Milton’s Forest Arts from 19th to 22nd February.
Talking Heads is a series of monologues which were originally written for the screen, but have adapted well to stage performances.
Director Janet Courtice has selected three for the evening’s entertainment, in which Bennett weaves his magic through Irene, Lady of Letters, who writes one too many complaints, getting her into trouble with the law.
Then there is Doris, who in A Cream Cracker Under the Settee does not trust her home help and tries to do some dusting herself, resulting in a fall with huge consequences.
Finally, in Her Big Chance, Lesley appears as an extra in a Roman Polanski film and truly believes she is about to have her big break as ‘Travis’ in a new film for the German market.
Janice said: “Although Talking Heads is now something of a period piece, the slices of life we encounter are still very recognisable and as fresh now as they were in the late 1980s when Bennett first wrote them.”
Following in the footsteps of the many acting legends who have taken on Bennett’s characters, three of New Forest Players’ accomplished actresses have taken on the challenge of bringing Irene (Lotte Fletcher-Jonk), Doris (Wendy Beaumont) and Lesley (Rachel Mackay) to the stage, for a production which promises warm and enjoyable entertainment for cold February nights.
Talking Heads is at Forest Arts from Wednesday 19th to Saturday 22nd February. Tickets are priced £14.
