Sway's colourful carnival is back as 10-day festival begins Friday

TREASURE hunts, processions, village fetes and scarecrow trails will return when Sway’s popular 10-day extravaganza begins tomorrow (Friday).

Back to its pre-pandemic scale, the popular celebration of village life includes more than a dozen activities dreamed up to get everyone in the community involved, culminating with a carnival procession and party on Jubilee Field on Saturday 9th July.

The theme is ‘Our Beautiful Planet’, with householders joining the fun during a week-long scarecrow and garden decoration trail beginning on Saturday.

Today families can join an afternoon treasure hunt beginning at the Hare and Hounds at 5pm.

The village fete and dog show will get under way tomorrow from 11am-3.30pm, with a community talent show set to take place at the village hall from 5pm.

On Sunday a village garage sale will be taking place at locations around Sway from 8.30am, followed by a world of wildlife children’s treasure hunt at Stanford Rise Green at 2.30pm.

Those looking for a more relaxing afternoon can head to Sway Manor from 3pm for Jazz on the Lawn.

On Monday 4th July wildlife lovers can join a bat walk at Stanford Rise Green at 9.15pm.

Sway Cinema will pop up at the village hall on Tuesday 4th July with a screening of Encanto at 4.30pm and singalong Mamma Mia at 7.30pm.

A children’s disco will take place at the village hall at 4.30pm on Wednesday 5th July, and on Thursday 6th July the popular Beetle Drive will be at the church rooms from 6.30pm.

On Friday 8th July a Viva Las Vegas Fun Casino will be at the village hall from 8pm.

The grand carnival procession will assemble for judging at Stanford Rise by the village hall at 4pm on Saturday 9th July, before setting off on a route through the village towards the Jubilee Field where there will be a party with music, food and a bar from 5pm.

A scarecrow trail will be taking place throughout the week based on a children’s stories theme, with maps available from Sway News.

The celebrations will conclude on Sunday 10th July with a litter pick of Jubilee Field at 10am, followed by a pet service at St Luke’s Church at midday and a grand draw at 4pm.
