Stompin on the Quomps back with a huge array of amazing music including FNUK and he Taverners Big Band

AFTER last year’s event was cancelled due to bad weather, Stompin’ on the Quomps is back with a bang this weekend with a top line-up of live entertainment.

A six-band programme begins at midday tomorrow (Saturday) with The Sound of the Blue Note playing jazz. This will be followed at 1.30pm by The Boogie Bumpers, a seven-piece band fusing jazz swing, rhythm and blues with a “bit of rock’n’roll”.

At 3pm Soldoro will be taking to the stage with tunes from Sergio Mendes, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Stevie Wonder.

At 4.30pm Fnuk will be playing a huge array of music from Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny and Brecker Brothers. The band includes local legends Jeremy Stacey on drums and Paul Stacey on guitar who have worked such greats as Sheryl Crow, Eric Clapton, Robbie Williams and Noel Gallagher.

Also playing will be Yolanda Charles on bass who has played with Mick Jagger, Paul Weller and Squeeze.

In the evening first on stage at 6pm will be The Kim Cypher Band who like a “funkier side of jazz” and have an “exuberant and passionate” saxophonist in the form of Kim.

Tickets to the event are free but there will be a collection for charity. Food and drink will be available along with children’s activities.

Bringing things to a close is The Taverners Big Band with Sam Merrick, who started Stompin’ and traditionally always end the event.

They will feature Big Band versions of contemporary classics from James Bond tunes to Weather Report plus timeless favourites from Glenn Miller, Count Basie and Benny Goodman.
