Made to Measure Productions brings Wizard of Oz to Regent Centre, Christchurch
AUDIENCES are invited to travel over the rainbow for a half term production of The Wizard of Oz at the Regent Centre in Christchurch.
The show, by Made to Measure Productions, will be rolled out for six performances between Wednesday 1st June and Saturday 4th June.
Billed as a panto-musical version of the classic story which is suitable for all ages, The Wizard of Oz promises to combine catchy music, clever scenery, colourful costumes and special effects for a spellbinding theatrical experience.
Creative director Lee Redwood said: “We are so excited to be creating a brand-new production of The Wizard of Oz at the Regent Centre in Christchurch – it’s a show we’ve wanted to create for years but never had the chance or opportunity until now, so we’ve had great fun writing the script and creating the music.
"The show is a musical/panto hybrid with plenty of plot and magical music to keep the story moving along but with a huge dollop of panto comedy for good measure!
“The Regent Centre is a fantastic venue and, personally, a return to my roots as I used to attend Drama Plus Theatre School back in the '90s, before the backstage refurbishment, every Saturday morning – so to be bringing our own exciting production to the venue is very special.”
The story follows Dorothy as she dreams of a magical place far away from her dull Kansas home and suddenly finds herself swept away to the enchanting Land of Oz.
As she dances her way down the Yellow Brick Road, she comes across a crazy company of characters including the straw-brained Scarecrow, a Tin Man who’s in need of a heart, a lovable lion and the Wickedest Witch.
Luckily, the good fairy Glinda is also on hand to wave her wand and sprinkle some sparkle over Dorothy and her friends!
Tickets are £18 or £15 for children and over-60s. For more information and booking visit www.regentcentre.co.uk or call the box office on 01202 499199.
