Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby, Mayflower Theatre, Southampton
INSPIRED by the hugely popular TV series, Rambert Dance will return to Southampton in Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby.
Written and adapted for the stage by Peaky Blinders’ creator Steven Knight, the dance theatre show is directed and choreographed by Rambert’s artistic director Benoit Swan Pouffer.
Featuring the 20-strong Rambert dance company on stage along with a live band playing specially commissioned music, the show will be at the Mayflower Theatre from Tuesday 20th to Saturday 24th May.
The show picks up the story of the Peaky Blinders at the end of the First World War, following Tommy Shelby and Grace Burgess through their passionate love affair. While Tommy is building his empire, Grace is operating as an undercover agent for Special Branch on a mission to get close to the heart of Tommy’s gang.
Recommended for ages 15 years and over due to adult themes, the show will feature a blend of dazzling, athletic dance, stunning dramatisation and an iconic Peaky soundtrack.
Tommy and the Peaky Blinders fought together at Flanders, and the show opens in the trenches. Bound by this experience, a personal story unfolds as the Shelby family navigate the decisions that determine their fate, and Tommy is intoxicated by the mysterious Grace.
Benoit said: “There are many moments that make this production unique but an integral one is that there is live music on stage. I always wanted the show to feel like a rock ’n’ roll concert, so having a band perform with the dancers felt organic.
“Rambert is one of the world’s most diverse companies of dancers, and I’m proud that we get to present adventurous, dynamic and daring work that inspires audiences, locally, nationally and internationally.”
Tickets are from £15. For more information and bookings visit mayflower.org.uk or call the box office on 02380 711811.
