Christmas Cracker Carol Concert featuring Bournemouth and Boscombe Light Opera Company to be held at Bournemouth’s Pavilion Theatre

The Bournemouth and Boscombe Light Opera Company (BBLOC) choir will perform at a free Christmas carol concert at Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre.

The Christmas Cracker Carol Concert was first staged in 2002 and has since become an annual performance enjoyed by the community.

Leading the music, Michael Wooldridge will be playing the theatre’s Compton organ, accompanied by local musician Ian Carter at the Steinway Grand Piano, and members of the BBLOC choir.

Visitors will be invited to join in with the carol singing and participate, as well as enjoy the organ music and choral accompaniment.

Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre is operated by charity and social enterprise BH Live, in partnership with BCP Council. The event is not ticketed but forms part of the charity’s community cultural engagement program.

BH Live’s associate director of venues, Steve Turner, said: “Our annual Christmas Cracker Carol Concert is an accessible way for people to enjoy some festive cheer. It’s also an opportunity to experience the theatre’s iconic Compton organ, which has been at the heart of the theatre for over 95 years. Our thanks go to everyone who takes part in the delivery of this special annual event.”

BCP Council’s cabinet member for culture, Cllr Andy Martin, said: “I’m really pleased to see this free concert return once again to the Pavilion – giving all our residents the chance to enjoy music in this beautiful venue over the festive period.”

The free concert will take place at 2.30pm on Wednesday 18th December. Optional donations will be accepted and are encouraged on the day, which will go towards the continued maintenance of the Pavilion’s Compton Organ Fund to help preserve the lifespan of the historical instrument.
