A NEW beach front deli, shop and bakery has opened in Christchurch selling produce prepared in the kitchens of the Noisy Lobster.

The old beach shop has been given an extensive makeover and now incorporates a sleek and stylish deli counter displaying delectable treats including trout pastrami, smoked sea bass, betroot salmon and Szechuan citrus cod.

Foodies can also get their hands on seaweed truffle butter, lobster oil, mackerel pate, dressed crab and various sauces, all made in-house by head deli chef Stewart Parker.

Marketing manager Monica Taylor said the shop revamp was inspired by restaurant guests who were keen to know where they could buy some of the fare they had enjoyed.

"A particular favourite with our diners is the seacuterie board, which includes our cured seafoods, butters and freshly baked breads," she said.

"We decided to start producing these with a view to selling them in the shop so our customers could take them home to enjoy with their families.

"Much of what we sell in the shop is made in-house, and the seafood is all caught from local waters out of Mudeford or Lymington.

"And what we don't produce ourselves is produced locally – so Wookey Hole cheese, Purbeck chocolate and ice cream and Dorset Sea Salt.

"Our cured seafood is unique to us and I'm not aware of anywhere else in the vicinity that produces it."

Keen to retain the traditional beach shop feel of the place, half of the building is dedicated to seaside essentials or items to keep holidaying families entertained.

These include buckets and spades, children's toys, magazines, newspapers and post cards.

"We wanted to cater to families seeking the perfect beach picnic, whether they be tourists or locals," said Monica.

"We even sell little cool bags and re-usable coffee cups – we wanted to meet every need."

Noisy Lobster merchandise is also on sale in the shop, including branded sunglasses, hoodies, shirts and water bottles.

The shop and restaurant is managed by Avon Beach Ltd, which also runs takeaway food outlets including the Coffee Cabin and Lobster Hatch, along with 91 beach huts.

The company is run by brothers Peter and Stephen Hayward.
