Murder Trial Tonight, O2 Guildhall, Southampton

TRUE crime drama will test the judgement of audience members when Murder Trial Tonight – The Doorstep Case comes to Southampton’s O2 Guildhall.

Based on true-crime events, the production is now in its third season with a new show created by a dedicated team of storytellers, technicians and performers. Hailed for bringing true-crime stories to life in an unparalleled way, the show begins on screen, giving the audience the backdrop and opening to the true-crime story.

The action then moves to the stage for a live murder trial, immersing the audience in a fast-paced courtroom experience. As members of the jury, the audience plays a crucial role unravelling the murder mystery.

Both the prosecution and defence present their cases, cross-examine witnesses, and at the end of the show, the audience deliberates and delivers their verdict: guilty or not guilty.

At the end of the trial, footage of the murder is revealed. But the question is: did the jury deliver the right verdict? Each season is based on a true story, with a disclaimer that names, events, and dates have been altered for dramatisation purposes.

Show director Graham Watts said: “This isn’t just a theatre play, it’s a social experiment. We aim to challenge perceptions and engage our audience in a way that goes beyond traditional theatre.”

The show has played to 85,000 audience members across 142 shows in 65 venues. In season two 82% of verdicts were closer than a 40/60 split in terms of guilty/not guilty, highlighting the show’s ability to provoke thought and debate about the justice system.

Murder Trial Tonight will be at the O2 Guildhall in Southampton on Saturday 22nd February at 7pm and Sunday 23rd February at 2pm. Tickets are from £35. For more information and bookings visit murdertrialtonight.com
