Mexican Folk art will feature in the new summer show at St Barbe Museum




THE vibrant world of Mexican folk art will be showcased in a summer exhibition at Lymington’s St Barbe Museum.

Entitled Viva México!, the show will continue at the Lymington venue until 14th September, with a special launch event set to take place this Saturday.

St Barbe spokesperson Penny Curry said: “This exciting exhibition brings a fresh cultural experience showcasing the vibrant world of Mexican folk art, from intricate textiles, ceramics and marvellous masks to playful toys and Day of the Dead displays.

Visitors can expect bold colours, dazzling crafts, and artifacts rooted in centuries-old traditions that are still alive today.

Curated by Internationally renowned expert Chloë Sayer, ¡Viva México! is billed as a joyful tribute to creativity and cultural heritage, with links to European, Aztec and Mayan influences.

Designed to the highest specifications, the St Barbe Museum and gallery host an active temporary exhibitions programme featuring a wide range of subjects throughout the year.

These exhibitions change every eight weeks and combine loans from the country’s finest public and private collections with the best of local art to create shows of national and regional significance.

“Whether you’re an art enthusiast or simply looking to experience something new and different, this exhibition is a feast for the senses,” added Penny, continuing: “The collection bursts with traditions and bold visual flair.”

To celebrate the new show St Barbe will be running a range of children’s activities and family-friendly workshops throughout the summer holidays. A special exhibition launch morning blending colour, creativity and culture will take place between 10am and 12noon on Saturday 5th July.
