Kinky Boots The Musical starring Strictly Come Dancing pro Johannes Radebe will come to Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre.

Strutting into Southampton next week is the Broadway and West End phenomenon Kinky Boots The Musical.

The show, which has become a firm favourite with UK theatregoers, has previously secured Olivier Awards for best new musical, best costume design and best actor in a musical.

Leading the cast is Strictly Come Dancing’s Johannes Radebe, who will play the iconic role of Lola. Johannes said playing the role fulfils a longstanding dream, adding: “It’s so inspirational, with a universal message in a story and songs that leave people feeling happy and joyful. Maybe their minds will be changed by it too. I find that quite incredible.”

The cast also includes Dan Partridge (Grease), Courtney Bowman (Six), Scott Paige (The Addams Family), and Newtion Matthews (Get Up Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical). The matinee performances will feature Newtion Matthews as Lola.

Based on a book by Broadway legend and four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein, with songs by Grammy and Tony winning pop icon Cyndi Lauper, the joyous musical is billed as a celebration of friendship and self-belief.

Inspired by true events, Kinky Boots transports audiences from a gentlemen’s shoe factory in Northampton to the glamorous catwalks of Milan.

Charlie Price is struggling to live up to his father’s expectations and continue the family business of Price & Son. With the factory’s future hanging in the balance, help arrives in the unlikely but spectacular form of Lola, a fabulous performer in need of some sturdy new stilettos.

Kinky Boots is directed by Nikolai Foster with choreography by Leah Hill, set and costume design by Robert Jones, musical supervision by George Dyer, lighting design by Ben Cracknell and sound design by Adam Fisher.
